Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park is one of the most important sites for birds in Uganda. 23 of Uganda’s 25 Albertine Rift endemics are found here.
This birding safari package special offers a birding excursion to different parts of this forest and concentrates efforts on locating the endemics. We visit the higher area of Ruhizha for the high altitude species.
We also take time to bird the neck a site frequently overlooked by many hasty birders. Finally we finish with Buhoma the northern part of the forest which hosts a variety of low altitude endemics.
Day 1 Meet and greet at Entebbe International Airport by your birding guide who will welcome you and take you to your hotel. Depending on the arrival time, you can bird the botanical gardens near Lake Victoria. O/N Entebbe Airport View Hotel.
DAY 2 After an early breakfast, we leave for Bwindi National Park, although the drive is long, we will be driving through some of the most beautiful sceneries in Uganda. We shall have a lunch break in a hotel enroute, and arrive at our destination in the evening. Overnight Buhoma homestead.
Day 3 After an early breakfast we start birding around the Buhoma area heading deep into the forest and onto the waterfall trail and we should find Handsome Francolin, Rufous-chested Flufftail, Bronze-naped Pigeon, Olive Long-tailed Cuckoo, Red-chested Owlet, Western Green Tinkerbird, Wilcock’s Honeyguide, Neumann’s Warbler, Equatorial Akalat, White-bellied Robin-chat and Pale-breasted Iladopsis. O/N Buhoma homestead
Day 4 After an early breakfast we leave for Ruhizha and enroute we shall dedicate sometime to birding “the neck” a good site for Dusky Twinspot, Lagden’s Bush-shrike, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Chapin’s and Cassin’s Flycatcher. O/N Ruhizha.
Day 5 After an early breakfast we shall take the trail towards Mubwindi swamps. Along the way we expect to see Grauers Broadbill, Grauer’s Warbler, Shelley’s Crimsonwing and Kivu Ground- thrush and the rarer Oberlaender’s Ground-Thrush. In the swamps Grauer’s Scrub Warbler have been noted in good numbers. In late evening we shall try to find the Fraser’s Eagle-owl which has been sighted in the recent past. O/N Ruhizha.
Day 6 After an early breakfast we leave for Kampala with a lunch break enroute arrive in the evening and transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your onward trip or flight home.Time permitting, you can go birding in Kakungulu leisure park along entebbe road.
