Birding safari package-Uganda birding safari Mabamba Wetlands is an Important Bird Area (IBA) and probably the best place to see the Shoebill Stork (Balaeniceps rex). The Shoebill Stork gained the name of “the most sought-after” of all the birds of the African continent. The bird can be seen in different places in Uganda and Mabamba Wetlands is without doubt one of the best places! A must for birders!
Early start at 6 a.m.! Your driver-guide will drive to Mabamba Wetlands in Mpigi District, 45 km from Entebbe/Kampala. The best time to observe birds and the shoebill stork is in the morning. A specialized local guide will make a canoe trip (Canadian type) with you through the natural channels and lagoons of the immense papyrus swamps. Mabamba offers excellent birding and the best opportunity around Kampala to see the shoebill in its natural environment.
We have a success rate of more than 80% . A must for every bird watcher! Lunch at Kisubi and in the afternoon a visit at the Wildlife Education Center or The Botanical Gardens at Entebbe. If you have missed the shoebill we advise you to visit the Wildlife Education Centre to see him there.
The half day excursion includes: return transport to Mabamba Wetlands, the use of a canoe, safety equipment, the services of a local specialized guide, plenty of mineral water, entry and guide fees, overnight at Kisubi when having a camping safari. It excludes: tips, personal expenses. What to bring? Outfit with adapted colours for birdlife observation, good walking shoes, raingear, sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sun cream, video/photo camera, a 300 mm or longer telelens is very usefull, reserve batteries, films, binoculars
