Karenge is a temporary Bush Camp in Akagera National Park, Rwanda. Karenge means 'small foot' in the local language. Karenge Bush Camp is situated in the Northern Part of Akagera National Park. It is by no means a luxury camp, but it is functional, serene and with stunning views of Akagera Park.
Karenge Bush Camp offers fantastic access to some of the best wildlife viewing in Akagera National park. Karenge is a boutique private and cozy camp with only 6 tents and can accommodate a maximum of 12 guests, it thus feels very private when you stay at Karenge avoiding the feel of mass tourism that one can experience when they stay at much larger properties. Each tent at Karenge Bush Camp sleeps two people on very comfortable camp beds, raised on simple decks, with solar and lanterns for light. Karenge is an ecofriendly camp. Warm water is provided daily in ensuite bathrooms next to each tent which have bucket showers and toilets. The drinks' fridges in the bar are solar fridges in keeping with the eco-concept of the camp.
Karenge Bush camp rates are full board so all meals are included in the room rates. All of the profits are ploughed back into the conservation and management of Akagera National Park.
Karenge Bush Camp is an incredible place to stay when you visit Akagera. The tents are fairly basic, with outdoor showers and dry toilets, so it’s not for everyone, The staff at Karenge do a wonderful job of keeping visitors comfortable. The location of Karenge Camp overlooking the plains of Akagera and beyond are awesomely stunning and the sounds of lions roaring (from a safe distance!) is something to behold and remember for a very long time.

The camp overlooks the Akagera plains in the northern part of the Park and offers one a perfect base for early morning game drives.The tents are intelligently positioned to ensure maximum privacy for all guests. The camp has a fireplace to keep guests warm in the cold evenings and nights. There is a terrace for dinner and relaxing over an evening coffee/tea or drink.
Guests can hear the roaring of lions and the whooping of hyenas at night, all adding to that wild feeling of an African bush. memorable stuff indeed.
