The Rwandan portion is home to gorillas, golden monkeys, silver monkeys, and over 180 species of birds. Currently, approximately 150 mountain gorillas live in the Rwandan portion of the mountains, in approximately 7 groups of varied sizes. These magnificent animals were studied intensely by Dian Fossey during her many years of living in the area.
Day 1 On arrival at Kigali airport in Rwanda, you will be met by your guide. After a briefing you will transfer to PNV driving through the beautiful terraced hillsides that characterise much of Rwanda’s landscape with as many as five peaks visible. O/N:Le Bambou gorilla lodge (B,L,D).
Day 2 Gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans. This is a magical experience. You hike the lush, forested slopes of the Virungas. If you find a gorilla group (permit included in tour cost), you spend an hour observing them before returning to base. Some gorilla families, however, are more elusive and tracking can take a full day. Gorilla Nest Hotel (B,L,D)
Day 3 Depart for Kigali; if time permits, take a tour of the city, including a visit to the market, a pottery project, a widow's project, handicraft shops, and a genocide memorial. Transfer to the airport for your onward international flight. (B,L).
